Are your relationships Authentic, Fruitful, and Lasting?

Authentic, Fruitful and Lasting Relationships

I met an old friend today by chance at wedding and it reminded me of something that I spoke about last year — In fact, I wish to share with you the video series that I produced last year collectively called “Business Networking Bites” which you can watch here.

Most people who have been involved with business networking in any capacity would have come across the concept of know me, like me; trust me, which is regarded as a process of forming and building relationships.

Following on and adding to that my view is that relationships need to be Authentic, Fruitful and Lasting (AFL). Here’s why I think these three words are key when it comes to business relationships.

Authentic

When forming a new relationship, it needs to be genuine and real. At its core foundation, there needs to be care for the other person with a mutual respect for the relationship and each other.

Fruitful

This may sound blunt, but there does need to be some sort of gain from the relationship for each person. Business relationships need to have some sort of outcome and purpose. This may be strictly business, or it may be educational, as you learn from one another, or it could even be emotional. Whether it’s one of these or a combination of the three, it’s important that there is a value and that the relationship is beneficial to both parties.

Lasting

This doesn’t mean lasting forever, but it does mean conducting the relationship in a way that ensures the connection lasts. The relationship may change but the connection remains. As I did today- if you meet up with someone after a long period, you should be able to pick up exactly from before with regards to the relationship. This is a testament to the lasting bond that is there.

AFL business relationships create new opportunities and even new friendships. I’d be keen to hear others’ thoughts on how you sustain the relationships you build when networking.
